Mouthwashes that include ethanol, chlorhexidine, cetylpyridinium chloride, hydrogen peroxide or povidone-iodine are especially effective and may even work against any new coronavirus strains that emerge, as the virus’ lipid envelope remains unchanged even when it mutates into new strains.

Previous research5 has also pointed out that certain mouthwashes, particularly povidone-iodine containing ones, may help minimize the risk of viral infections and upper respiratory tract infections. Listerine and 3% hydrogen peroxide have also been shown to eliminate bacteria from toothbrushes with 100% efficacy.6

How Hydrogen Peroxide Works

Against Viruses

To inactivate viruses with hydrogen peroxide, all you need is a nebulizer with a face mask that covers your mouth and nose that emits a fine mist, and food grade hydrogen peroxide that is diluted to 1% or less if you have any irritation. The microscopic mist, similar to smoke or vapor, can be comfortably inhaled deep into your nostrils, sinuses and lungs.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) consists of a water molecule (H2O) with an extra oxygen atom, and it is the additional oxygen atom that allows it to inactivate viral pathogens. Viruses are not “alive” per se. They need a live host in which they can infect live cells that then replicate the viral DNA and RNA. Once a cell is infected, newly replicated viruses exit the cell and move on to the next cell to duplicate the process.So, when we talk about “killing” a virus, we’re really talking about inactivating it by breaking down its structure. This is how mouthwash can inactivate viruses, and why soap works so well. Coronaviruses are held together by a lipid (fatty) coating. Soap, being amphipathic10 — meaning it can dissolve most molecules — dissolves this fat membrane, causing the virus to fall apart and become harmless.
Hydrogen peroxide works in a similar way. Some of your immune cells actually produce hydrogen peroxide to destroy pathogens. By killing the infected cell, viral reproduction is stopped. So, hydrogen peroxide therapy is in essence only aiding your immune cells to perform their natural function more effectively.Hydrogen peroxide is also a key redox signaling agent that creates oxidative eustress.11 Contrary to oxidative stress or oxidative distress, oxidative eustress denotes an oxidative challenge that has positive or beneficial effects and is essential in redox signaling.If you’re already presenting with runny nose or sore throat, Levy recommends using the nebulizer for 10 to 15 minutes four times a day until your symptoms are relieved. You can also use nebulized hydrogen peroxide for prevention and maintenance, which may be advisable during flu season, or while the COVID-19 pandemic is in full swing. Levy notes:12

Combining the use of Bound-Oxygen Sore Throat and Cough Spray with using a nebulizer is a very convenient alternative as it is very easy to carry the 10ml bottles with you, then use it immediately if you feel your health has been compromised (sneezed or coughed on). Fast action is the key as it is much easier to kill a few bacteria/viruses than after its been multiplying.

May Helps with Stopping to Smoke

My theory is the reason it is so difficult to stop smoking/vaping is the sugar content of cigarettes. This then feeds the fungi’s in your lungs, when these fungi’s get hungry they tell you to smoke (this is the short explanation – read more here). This is why vaping with Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) is so helpful as it kills the fungi in the lungs, so when you feel the craving to smoke, nebulize a 1% Bound-Oxygen “Sore Throat and Cough Spray” instead. This makes stopping smoking much easier, or it at least made it much easier for me.

May helps to bring up the Oxygen Levels in your Blood (%SpO2)

With COVID-19 one of the scary things that can happen is the virus can go into your lungs, this will have the result that the Oxygen (%SpO2) goes down to dangerous low levels that can be catastrophic!

Your reading with the Pulse Oximeter (Costs about R500 – R1200) should be 94 or above. If your levels are below 90 it is reason to seek medical help. My suggestion is that every household should have one of these meters available at all times as it just might save you from calamity. Early warning!

When I start my nebulize session my %SpO2 percentage oxygen in my blood rise quickly – within about 2 minutes – to 98/99 then it stays at this level for about an hour after the end of a 20 minute nebulizer session.

So if you have a nebulizer please test this for yourself, and comment so as to share it with more people.

In times to come I think using a nebuliser will become a comman practise, the following is my suggestions:

  • When arriving at the Doctor/Dentist – wile waiting – or having to arrive 15 minutes earlier, so that the client can lebulize first.

  • Before leaving the house in the morning and again when arriving back, so keep everyone safe in the household including yourself.

  • When arriving at the office/work, and before going into meetings, remember if you have done it before in the same day even 5 minutes will help.

So my recommendation will be to go buy a Nebulizer, every household and business should have at least one. You also get portable Nebulizers and so they can be taken with you wherever you go. Most bigger Pharmacies stock them and they cost between R600 – R3000. I just use one of the cheap ones and it works very well.

A Nebulizer also just use tiny amounts of Hydrogen Peroxide 1% so 10ml will last for hours, so very economical.

Why You Should be careful of Alcohol Hand Sanitizer

There are many times you should use hand sanitizer, such as before and after touching a surface other people have touched. It’s good to wipe down the handle of a shopping cart before you use it. It’s also wise to use sanitizer after you’ve pushed a cart around the store, after filling your vehicle with fuel, after handling money, and after touching elevator buttons or door handles. Always wash your hands (with either soap and water or hand sanitizer) after each time you cough and sneeze.

Since COVID-19 has started most people rarely leave their houses without their bottles of alcohol hand sanitizer —and it’s easy to see why: Virtually everything we touch on a daily basis is teeming with bacteria. And now the added risk of the Coronavirus! In fact, one study published in the journal Germs assessed 27 cell phones and found a median of 17,000 bacterial gene copies per phone. And while alcohol hand sanitizer may seem like an effective on-the-go solution for ridding yourself of germs, using it too frequently can do more harm than good. Actually, it’s because hand sanitizer is so effective at killing bacteria and viruses that it’s not ideal for everyday use.

If you’re using very high concentrations of alcohol, it can cause dryness and cracks in the skin. Not only does it not feel good when the alcohol hits the skin, but then the skin won’t heal as well. That’s why it’s especially important not to use alcohol-based sanitizers on injured skin or your face.

So what about hand sanitizers that count ethyl alcohol, as their active ingredient (which is most hand sanitizers)? While these are the most potent sanitizers on the market and are recommended by the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, alcohol-based hand sanitizers have some serious downsides as well.

Repeated use of hand sanitizer, can cause chronic irritation, skin breakdown, and damage.

Additionally, alcohol’s ability to kill off beneficial bacteria on the skin’s surface as a potential source of harm. If you’re beating down a natural defense the body has, you could be causing some chronic risk over time.

Also, you can get the Norovirus very easily and it is a very contagious virus that causes vomiting and diarrhea. Anyone can get infected and sick with norovirus. You can get norovirus from having direct contact with an infected person. Consuming contaminated food or water.

That’s not the only problem with overusing, the topical application of ethyl alcohol can lower the skin barrier function and render the membrane more permeable to harmful chemicals like nitrosamines from cosmetics.

Though there are numerous downsides to using alcohol-based sanitizers, none of this is to say that you can’t use these products every once in a while. Yes, washing your hands with soap and water removes debris that hand sanitizer leaves behind (including allergens like peanut proteins) with the fewest side effects. Important to do before lighting a cigarette etc. But if you’re in a pinch and need to get rid of germs ASAP, then it’s OK to use an emergency bottle of alcohol hand sanitizer.

But be careful as the other problem with strong alcohol is that it is very flammable, so don’t light cigarettes or fires, etc. as if your hands catch fire its not a pleasant experience.

Sanitizer capable of killing the broadest range of pathogens contains 60 to 85 percent ethanol or 60 to 80 percent isopropanol or n-propanol.

Store hand sanitizer out of the reach of pets and children, and children should use it only with adult supervision.

Do not drink alcohol hand sanitizer. This is particularly important for young children, especially toddlers, who may be attracted by the pleasant smell or brightly colored bottles of hand sanitizer. Drinking even a small amount of hand sanitizer can cause alcohol poisoning in children. (However, there is no need to be concerned if your children eat with or lick their hands after using hand sanitizer.)

During this coronavirus pandemic, poison control centers have had an increase in calls about accidental ingestion of hand sanitizer, so it is important that adults monitor young children’s use.

Do not allow pets to swallow hand sanitizer. If you think your pet has eaten something potentially dangerous, call your veterinarian or a pet poison control center right away.

However, if you want to avoid the skin-damaging effects of alcohol-based sanitizers, you can always use a product that does not use alcohol as the active ingredient, like Bound-Oxygen’s 2% Hydrogen Peroxide Hand Sanitizer.

Be forewarned, though: While alcohol-free hand sanitizers are largely effective, they are slightly less potent than their alcohol-based counterparts. But much safer especially for children to take with to school etc.

But if you want to keep your skin healthy, and soft then this is definitely the better option. And also if you are a smoker or work in an environment that has flames or sparks – then it is probably better not to risk it.

What are the fire hazards relating to alcohol-based hand rub?

All alcohol-based products are potentially flammable and therefore they should be stored away from high temperatures and flames. The WHO suggests that all health-care organizations currently using alcohol-based hand rub should undertake local risk assessments.

Allow the hand rub to dry: Staff should be advised to let their hands dry and the vapors disperse after using alcohol hand rub, which minimizes these risks. The How to Handrub posters state clearly: “once dry, your hands are safe”

  • The flash points of ethanol 80% (v/v) and isopropyl alcohol 75% (v/v) are 17.5°C and 19°C, respectively.
  • Care should be taken when carrying personal containers/dispensers to avoid spillage onto clothing, bedding, or curtains, and in pockets, bags or vehicles.
  • Containers/dispensers should be stored in a cool place, and care should be taken regarding the securing of tops / lids.
  • The quantity of handrub kept in a ward or department should be as small as is reasonably practicable for day-to-day purposes.
  • A designated ‘Highly Flammables’ store will be required for situations where it is necessary to store more than 50 L (e.g. central bulk storage).
  • Containers and dispenser cartridges containing handrub should be stored in a cool place away from sources of ignition. This also applies to used containers that have not been rinsed with water.

Where should alcohol-based handrub dispensers be located?

Handrub dispensers should not be placed above or close to potential sources of ignition, such as light switches and electrical outlets, or next to oxygen or other medical gas outlets, due to the increased risk of vapors igniting.

N.B. Fighting a large (i.e. bulk storage) alcohol fire using water or aqueous (water) film-forming foam (AFFF) extinguishers may be ineffective and may spread the fire over a larger area rather than put it out.

Disinfecting COVID-19 face Masks

A growing number of people are now recommending that people wear face coverings or masks when going out and doing essential tasks such as grocery shopping and going to medical appointments. And did you know that you can improve on there effectiveness of these masks? And keep then clean and germ-free for longer?
But how do you keep your coverings clean?
The Department of Public Health recommends frequently washing cloth face masks – ideally after each use, but at least every day. Wash with detergent and hot water and dry on a hot cycle (or at least washed with hot, soapy water).
Ideally use a Hydrogen Peroxide Hand Sanitizer to constantly keep it clean and virus free. Did you know that a 0.5% Hydrogen Peroxide Kills the Coronavirus with a 60 seconds contact time?
You spray it on both the inside and the outside of the face-mask! It will kill all the pathogens on the face mask, as well as kill any that comes in contact with it later (as long as the mask is moist). So always spray on your face mask before touching it, or adjusting it.
Experts say masks alone are not particularly effective in preventing infection. That is why its best to combine it with a Sanitiser Spray, to keep them clean longer. Trying to stop the Coronavirus? Stop the Sore Throat – Most important of all

Do not get infected with the Coronavirus:

Bound-Oxygen has a two-part hypothesis on what we can do for the Coronavirus:

Part One: Hydrogen Peroxide kills the Coronavirus on surfaces (on contact), so then hydrogen peroxide will also kill the Coronavirus inside the throat and the sinuses. And any other places in the body. As long as you can get the Hydrogen Peroxide onto the virus (as they neutralize each other).

Part two: After Hydrogen Peroxide application the Coronavirus will be less contagious. (If there are fewer live viruses, there are less to share.)

Most important of all is to keep it out of the lungs. You can have other symptoms and have the Coronavirus, but it’s only the lungs that are deadly.

Bound-Oxygen has no proof yet – we hope this will change soon.

This should not be difficult to prove as simple before and after test on surfaces, sowing the difference should suffice. Testing the number of viruses if sneezed on a paper held in front of the mouth, and then the same test after the Sinus and Throat spray was used.

But we will need more funding and we can only start planning for this after the shut-down is over. But it’s a rational conclusion that if there are fewer viruses in the mouth, throat, and sinuses that there will be fewer viruses spread with breathing, coughing, and sneezing. So less contagious, and so maybe the lock-down will be able to be sorter or not necessary at all.

The good news is that we at Bound-Oxygen believes that our products should be able to both kill and prevent the Coronavirus from all of these places in the body that is easily reachable, so the sinuses and throat, that is if our hypothesis is correct.

Incubation periods

The mouth and throat will be the fastest incubation period. The throat is the final frontier – do not let it get a hold on the throat! So kill the Virus/Cold/Flu at the first sign of a sore throat, but preferably prevent the throat from getting sore, by spraying every day to help protect the throat.

(When you spray our Throat Spray in the mouth and there was a mild burning sensation it means there was bacteria/viruses that it neutralised, and so if this happens spray more often. If you spray to prevent a sore throat and there is no reaction, it meens all is well!)

The sinuses and eyes will be the second-fastest incubation period in getting sick after being infected. You will probably lose your sense of smell and taste. The virus will drip into the throat, (postnasal drip) and so it’s only then that the big problems will start, as the constant drip into the throat will reinfect the throat on a constant basis. If it comes through the eyes, it will also infect the sinuses, as they are connected.

The longest incubation period will be through the ears. But when it starts dripping into the throat, then there will be big trouble, as the constant drip into the throat will reinfect the throat on a constant basis, it is also more difficult to stop the infection in the ears as there is no blood.

We also know that weaker solutions of Hydrogen Peroxide will kill viruses with longer contact times, or with intermittent contact that makes up a longer contact time.

The problem is how to administer Hydrogen Peroxide inside the body safely? As both free radicals can do lots of harm and if the Hydrogen Peroxide is administered too strongly, this can do damage as it has a strong burning action, from there the bubbles, when it’s mild there are no bubbles.

So the best option is, slow, steady and a mild solution of Hydrogen Peroxide. So each time you kill some viruses, probably wounding others, and the rest will have to be killed with the next applications, repeating until all is clean. Winning slowly and safely.

We suggest spraying the sinus every hour – this is 0.065% Hydrogen Peroxide. Your sinuses can not handle strong solutions. So spraying continuously to help make up for the weakness of the liquad is advisable.

Spray the Throat spray hourly into the mouth and the ears – this is a 1% as your mouth can handle a bit stronger Hydrogen Peroxide as it also mixes with the saliva that will make it less strong, then swallow.

Spray 1 spray for every 30kg of weight. Ideally, hold in mouth mixing it with your saliva mowing it around in your mouth for a few minutes then swallow.

This will both clean your mouth and your throat. This is important as you swallow and cough whatever is in the mouth will move to the throat and then from throat to mouth and vice versa.

Keeping the ears clean is just making extra sure as its also connected to the throat. You do this by spraying the Sinus Spray first in the one ear while lying on your side filling the ear with liquid for 5 to 10 minutes, then letting it drain. Then repeating it for the other ear,

So the oxidation has a mild burning sensation, some of the viruses will be killed and some will be injured, its these injured viruses that can now easily be killed by the body’s defenses.

So we suggest that we do this cycle of cleansing until all is well again.
